Young talents in engineering

The importance of boys & girls and inspiring examples like Fenna at the Meijer Group.

Getting young people interested in a career in engineering is crucial, and girls are just as needed as boys in this sector. An inspiring example is Fenna, who at the age of 17 did a taster internship with the Meijer Group. Fenna was not a girl who could sit in school five days in a row and wasn’t sure what education she wanted to pursue.

At first she thought about a career in healthcare, but a previous snorkeling internship showed that this was not her passion. At the Meijer-Group, however, they saw potential in Fenna and offered her the opportunity, via a BBL training program, to become a welder. Fenna is now 20 years old and has obtained several welding diplomas, including the diploma all-round welder level 3.

Fenna’s story underlines the importance of involving girls in technical professions. They bring new perspectives and skills that the industry needs. By giving them the right opportunities and guidance, we can ensure that the engineering sector continues to grow and innovate. It is time to inspire and encourage more young people, especially girls, to enter engineering.

Now that Fenna has virtually completed her BBL training, Fenna will also receive a permanent contract with Meijer. Fenna’s success and her permanent contract at Meijer highlight the benefits of investing in young talent through training such as BBL.
